About Us

Prime Photonics was founded in 1999 by researchers from the Virginia Tech Center for Photonics Technology.  Prime has a Federal-sponsored R&D customer base that includes the Army, Air Force, Navy, NASA, DOE, NSF and DARPA. Prime technology areas include fiber optic sensors, wireless sensors, energy harvesting and metamaterials with an emphasis on extreme environment sensor applications.

Prime reinvigorated its product development and commercialization activities in 2009 with the hiring of a new CEO, significant changes to the Board of Managers and a renewed emphasis on transitioning Prime technologies to the marketplace.  Prime is a company focused on bringing innovative products to the marketplace while closely adhering to our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Commitment to Stakeholders and Performance.

Prime Photonics develops and delivers extreme environment fiber optic and self-powered wireless sensor products that enable next generation military and commercial capabilities in test and measurement, controls and health monitoring applications.
