Omnivore™ harvests energy from thermal, flow and/or vibration, and uses the harvested energy to power low-power telemetry (radio) and sensor subsystems. Omnivore™ is targeting extreme application environments, including rotorcraft turboshaft applications with ambient temperatures up to 500F. ![]()
Prototype Omnivore™ vibration and thermal wireless sensor energy harvester for passive cooling (a) which can generate 100’s of milliWatts and active cooling (b) which can generate Watts of power. This prototype uses combinations of vibration and thermal energy to power the low-power radio and sensor payload and has self-controlled sample rates depending on the operating regime and available power. Omnivore™ Multi-Source Energy HarvestersOmnivore™ Multi-Source Energy Harvesters efficiently extract energy from vibration, thermal and/or flow. Prime can customize Omnivore™ energy harvesting using specialized high efficiency multi-power point tracking (MPPT) technology to optimize energy harvesting based on the amount and types of available environmental energy. Intelligent power conditioning and power management electronics allow customized performance over wide operating regimes. Specific technologies include wideband vibrational harvesters, fluidic oscillator-based flow harvesters, high temperature thermo-electric generators and heat pipe thermal harvesters. Wireless SensorsOmnivore™ is being actively developed for wireless sensor applications and can support temperature, pressure, vibration and flow sensors. Prime is working with a range of low-power radio technologies, including Ultra Wideband (UWB) impulse radio, for wireless sensor telemetry applications.
